As a Matcha customer, you can measure the performance of not only content that you’ve published through the Matcha app, but all of the content on your website. Website tracking adds additional content insights to the same performance reporting capabilities that exist natively in the app: engagement metrics, lead form tracking, and social analytics, and more.
To set up website tracking:
- If you haven’t done so already, install the Matcha tracking code on your site.
- Go to the website tracking setup page, in the Settings section of the Matcha app.
- With the Matcha tracking code installed and once we’ve been able to process some data from your website, you’ll see a list of pages on your site, with an option to Add a tracking rule:
4. You’ll only want to measure content performance for the content pages, such as blog posts, on your web site. To accomplish this, click the Add a tracking rule link, and select the domain where your content is hosted. We will also look for content on subdomains of this domain. For example, if you select “mywebsite.org”, and your content is on “blog.mywebsite.org”, it will still be measured for content performance.
5. Based on page locations within this domain, you can begin adding rules for which pages should be tracked as content. Start by adding a path. For example, if your blog posts are all located under “/blog”, on your site, you will need to add that as a tracked path.
6. As you edit your tracking rules, you’ll see a list of pages updating below. This will help you to determine whether you have set up your rules correctly, as you’ll be able to see which pages will and will not be tracked as content.
7. To test your tracking rules, you can search for specific pages, or toggle a filterbetween showing all pages (so you can see which pages are not being tracked as content) or just the ones that match your rules.
8. Once you are satisfied with your content tracking rules, click Save rule.
As you see the page list update, you may notice some pages that do not host content. For example, you may have pages that show lists of posts, perhaps with locations like “yourwebsite.org/blog/categories/”. You can add an exception for these types of pages, using the Add an exception link.
Once you have completed this initial configuration, you will start to see all of these pages in the content performance reporting in the Analytics tab, and can filter these views to show all of your content, only content from Matcha, or only content from your website:
